Istinye University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of English Translation and Interpreting organized an event on “Discrimination Experiences of the Deaf Community and Social Work”. The event was organized as part of the EDUSIGN & SIGNEDU project, which focuses on joint curriculum studies in the field of sign language and artificial intelligence. Within the scope of the event, Dr. Fatmanur Alsancak from Sakarya University, Department of Social Work gave a speech and the moderator was project researcher Res. Asst. İsmail Nalbantoğlu from Istinye University, Department of Social Work.
This important event aimed to discuss the experiences of discrimination faced by deaf individuals in society and how such discrimination can be addressed in the field of social work. The speaker and other participants emphasized the importance of sign language in social work.
The event brought together sign language experts, social workers and representatives of the deaf community. The discussion focused on new strategies and practices to combat discrimination and ensure better integration of deaf individuals into society.
Project coordinator Dr. Ülkü Kölemen thanked all the participants who attended the event and stated that similar events will continue to be organized in the future to defend the rights of the deaf community.
