Banu Türkuğur Şahin from the Association of Turkish Sign Language Interpreters and Orkun Utsukarcı from the Confederation of the Deaf were invited to 7th June Turkish Sign Language Festival organized by Turkish Language Association as panelists.

The panel discussion “Turkish Sign Language in the Turkish Century” organized by the Turkish Language Association provides a critical opportunity for the future of Turkish Sign Language. In this context, a detailed evaluation of Turkish Sign Language was planned within the framework of the EDUSIGN project.

In this context, the Ministry of Family and Social Policies undertook the coordination of sign language training and sign language interpreting and the Turkish Language Association was requested to take part in the process. Our project was carefully discussed in this open session to protect Turkish Sign Language and to develop a curriculum. The steps to be taken to popularize Turkish Sign Language and increase its effectiveness will support our goal of reaching all segments of society.
